San Martino - Passo Rolle
The area San Martino (1450 m) Passo Rolle (1980 m) extends
in a natural bowl encircled by meadows and mountains. The ancient tradition of
the valley must be searched in the past when merchants and travelers crossed it
in order to reach Passo Rolle. In the second half of the XIXth century tourists
and climbers came here attracted by the famous Pale di San Martino. The Natural
Park of Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino exalts still more the beauty of the
Primiero. Valleys, imposing walls of white Dolomiti rock, smooth cliffs of dark
porphyry, alpine pastures, pools, old forests, paths, form a oasis where flora
and fauna are protect in order to keep integral this natural patrimony.
The nature of the Primiero and the lawns of the Val Canali, is interrupted by
the hugeness of the Pale di San Martino and by the famous tops of Sass
Maor, Velo della Madonna and Cimon della Pala.
Northwards of Saint Martino we find one of the most famous Dolomitic passes, Passo
Rolle. Coming down for the Valley of the Cismòn we find Siror, Tonadico
that leads to Passo Cereda, Fiera di Primiero with the romantic Val
Canali, Transacqua, Mezzano with its wild Val Noana, and, at last, the country
of Imer, from where you can reach Val Vanoi.
Primiero cuisine is made only of ingredients that make the taste of the typical
products increase.
San Martino di Castrozza and Primiero offer to their guests a "full nature"
programme, both in winter and in summer. The ski area extends westwards
of Saint Martino, on the slopes of Mount Tognola and of Punta Ces, until 2400
m. And here experts, beginners, children and lovers of carving and snowboard will
find a lot of tracks always in perfect snow conditions, from December to April
But thats not all. In fact, on alternate days, the three visitor centres
of the Parc are open to the public: San Martino, Paneveggio and Villa Welsperg
in Val Canali. Three rich museums tell history, geography and culture of this
corner of Trentino.
Everyday you can walk in the Natural Park, along the easy paths till the
well-known Foresta dei violini (Violin wood) or to Val Canali; or, with
the help of the guides, you can decide to make an excursion with the snowshoes
in the wood. Moreover, in the evening, you can have a romantic walk under the
starry sky. The dog-training centre for rescue in case of avalanche, managed by
the Financial Police is worth a visit. Here you can see the best German shepherds
at work.
Moreover, a weekly programme of live animation has been thought only for children.
The participation to the several activities organized guarantee valid points for
the award "Guest of the Week", with prize-giving every Friday evening.
Mountain-bike lovers cannot miss, at the end of June, the Rampikissima: 46 Km
